Slot Glossary

34 terms every slot player should know — explained with Aztec Multipliers examples where relevant. No marketing jargon.

Autoplay

A setting that spins the reels automatically for a set number of rounds. You pick how many spins and optional stop conditions (like stopping on a bonus trigger or when your balance drops below a threshold). Useful for grinding through base game spins without clicking every time.

Base Game

Regular gameplay before any bonus features trigger. Most of your spins happen here. In high-volatility slots like Aztec Multipliers, the base game usually pays small or nothing — the big wins come from features.

Bonus Buy (Feature Buy)

Lets you skip the base game and jump directly into a bonus round for a fixed cost — usually 50x to 500x your bet. Not available in all jurisdictions; the UK bans it entirely. Aztec Multipliers does not currently offer a bonus buy option, so the only way to reach Free Spins is the natural scatter trigger.

Cascading Reels (Tumble)

After a win, winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into place. This can chain multiple wins from a single spin. Aztec Multipliers uses cascade mechanics — each chained cascade adds +1x to the running multiplier, which is what makes long sequences valuable.

Cluster Pays

A win mechanic where matching symbols need to form a connected group (cluster) rather than lining up on a payline. Typically requires 5+ matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically.

Dead Spin

A spin that returns absolutely nothing — zero payout. In high-volatility slots like Aztec Multipliers, dead spins are common. That's not a bug; it's how the math model works. Budget accordingly and don't chase losses after a dry streak.

Feature Trigger Rate

How often a bonus feature activates, usually expressed as '1 in X spins.' Aztec Multipliers's Free Spins trigger at roughly 1 in 200 base game spins via 4+ Aztec Sun scatters. You can find these stats in the game's paytable or math sheet from Gamebeat.

Free Spins

Bonus rounds triggered by landing scatter symbols (usually 3+). You get a set number of spins at no cost. Aztec Multipliers requires 4+ Aztec Sun scatters, awarding 10–15 spins depending on count. Extra scatters during the round add more spins via retrigger.

Hit Frequency

How often a slot lands any winning combination. A 25% hit frequency means roughly 1 in 4 spins pays something. High-volatility slots tend to have lower hit frequencies but larger individual wins.

Max Win

The absolute maximum a slot can pay on a single spin, expressed as a multiplier of your bet. Aztec Multipliers caps at 5,000x. Once hit, the round ends immediately regardless of remaining features. Most players never reach this — it's a theoretical max win.

Max Win Cap

The absolute cap on a single spin's payout. Once reached, the game stops the round immediately — even if you had remaining free spins with multipliers building. Aztec Multipliers caps at 5,000x. The round ends, your balance updates, and you're back to base game. This cap protects the casino's liability.

Megaways

A mechanic by Big Time Gaming where the number of symbols per reel changes each spin, creating up to 117,649 ways to win. Aztec Multipliers uses 1,024 Ways on a 5×4 grid — a fixed Ways-to-Win system, not Megaways. The reel count and rows stay constant.

Multiplier

A value that multiplies your win. A 10x multiplier on a $5 win = $50 payout. In Aztec Multipliers, multipliers are central via the Growing Multiplier system — the number above the reels increases with every cascade and persists across all spins of the Free Spins feature.

Paylines

Predefined lines across the reels where matching symbols must land to form a win. Aztec Multipliers uses 1,024 Ways on a 5×4 grid — wins count whenever matching symbols land on adjacent reels left to right, regardless of row position. There are no traditional paylines to activate.

Paytable

The reference chart showing what each symbol pays for different combination lengths (3, 4, or 5 of a kind). Access it through the game's info or settings menu. Premium symbols like Aztec King, Jaguar, and Eagle pay more than card symbols (A, K, Q, J).

RNG (Random Number Generator)

The algorithm that determines every spin outcome. Certified by independent labs (like eCOGRA, iTech Labs, GLI) to ensure fairness. Each spin is completely independent — previous results have zero influence on future ones. There's no such thing as a slot being 'due' for a win.

RTP (Return to Player)

The theoretical percentage of wagered money a slot returns over millions of spins. Aztec Multipliers has an RTP of 96.37%, which sits above the 96% industry baseline. That doesn't mean you'll get back that exact percentage in your session — it's a long-term statistical average. Short sessions can deviate wildly in either direction.

Scatter

A special symbol that triggers features regardless of its position on the grid — it doesn't need to land on a specific payline. In Aztec Multipliers, the Aztec Sun scatter triggers Free Spins when 4 or more land anywhere on the 5×4 grid. 4 = 10 spins, 5 = 12 spins, 6+ = 15 spins.

Session Variance

The gap between your actual results and the theoretical RTP. Aztec Multipliers has 96.37% RTP, but a 500-spin session can return anywhere from 40% to 180% of your wager. That's normal. Don't judge a slot's fairness from a single session — you need thousands of spins for results to converge toward the published RTP.

Sticky Wild

A Wild symbol that stays in place for multiple spins instead of disappearing after one round. Aztec Multipliers does not use sticky wilds — its Wild Substitution mechanic places non-sticky wilds on reels 2, 3, and 4 only. The persistent element here is the Growing Multiplier, not the wilds themselves.

Volatility (Variance)

How a slot's payouts are distributed. High volatility = rare but large wins, long dry spells. Low volatility = frequent small wins, steadier balance. Aztec Multipliers is rated High volatility (5/5 on Gamebeat's scale). Expect patience-testing base game stretches punctuated by explosive Free Spins hits driven by multiplier accumulation.

Ways to Win

An alternative to paylines where matching symbols on adjacent reels (left to right) count as wins regardless of row position. A 5×4 grid with this format produces 1,024 Ways possible combinations — that's exactly how Aztec Multipliers works. Match three jaguars on reels 1-2-3 in any row position and it's a win.

Wild

A symbol that substitutes for any regular symbol to complete winning combinations. It doesn't replace scatters or Totems. In Aztec Multipliers, the Aztec Mask Wild appears on reels 2, 3, and 4 only — its job is enabling cluster formations that would otherwise miss, indirectly fueling multiplier growth during Free Spins.

Win Distribution

How a slot's total payouts are spread across different win sizes. High-volatility slots like Aztec Multipliers are 'top-heavy' — a small percentage of spins (mostly Free Spins rounds with high multipliers) account for most of the total payout. Most base game wins are modest. Bankroll planning should reflect that asymmetry.

Bonus Buy Restrictions

Some countries ban the ability to purchase bonus rounds directly. The UK prohibits bonus buy since October 2021. Sweden caps bet sizes. Other markets have similar rules. Aztec Multipliers sidesteps these restrictions by not offering bonus buy at all — Free Spins are reachable only through natural scatter triggers.

Growing Multiplier

The signature mechanic in Aztec Multipliers. A counter above the reels starts at 1x and adds +1x with every cascade chain. In base game it resets between spins and caps at 10x per spin. During Free Spins it never resets — the multiplier carries from spin one through the final spin, applying to every subsequent win.

Totem Symbol

A special symbol unique to Aztec Multipliers. When a Totem lands on any reel, it adds +2x to the active multiplier instead of the standard +1x cascade increment. Two Totems on a single spin = +4x; three = +6x. During Free Spins, Totem frequency roughly doubles, and the boosts persist permanently across the feature.

Aztec Sun (Scatter)

The scatter symbol in Aztec Multipliers. Land 4+ anywhere on the 5×4 grid to trigger Free Spins. Four scatters award 10 spins, five award 12, six or more award 15. Three or more landed during the feature retrigger an additional 5 spins. Statistically the trigger lands roughly once per 200 base game spins.

Aztec Mask (Wild)

The Wild symbol in Aztec Multipliers, restricted to reels 2, 3, and 4. It substitutes for all regular paying symbols except Aztec Sun and Totem. Wilds don't carry their own multipliers — their role is bridging cluster gaps. A single well-placed Mask can complete dozens of 1,024 Ways combinations on the 5×4 grid.

1,024 Ways to Win

The win mechanic in Aztec Multipliers. With 4 symbols visible per reel across 5 reels, the math produces 4×4×4×4×4 = 1,024 possible left-to-right combinations. Any matching symbol on adjacent reels counts, regardless of row alignment. This is what replaces traditional paylines — no line activation required.

Cascade Multiplier Chain

The chained cascade mechanic in Aztec Multipliers. Each winning cluster removes itself, drops new symbols in, and adds +1x to the multiplier. Hitting 3 cascades from one spin = 3x multiplier on subsequent wins of that spin. In base game the cap is 10x per spin; during Free Spins there is no cap, and the chain accumulates across every spin of the feature.

Persistent Multiplier (Free Spins)

The Free Spins variant of the Growing Multiplier in Aztec Multipliers. Unlike base game where the counter resets every spin, Free Spins lock the multiplier in place across all 10–15 spins of the feature. By the end of a strong run with several Totem hits, the multiplier can sit at 15x–20x or higher, applying to every cascade win of the closing spins.

Gamebeat

The Maltese provider of Aztec Multipliers, founded in 2020 and certified across multiple jurisdictions. Gamebeat specializes in mid-tier high-volatility slots with mechanic-led designs. The Growing Multiplier and Totem system in Aztec Multipliers is one of their signature feature pairings — it also appears in 3 Apex Treasures with different theming.

Aztec Theme

The setting of Aztec Multipliers — pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilization, jungle and stone-temple aesthetic. Premium symbols include Aztec King, Jaguar, and Eagle. Mid-tier symbols feature Snake, Obsidian Mask, and Gold Ring. The Aztec Sun (scatter) and Aztec Mask (wild) anchor the iconography. Soundtrack uses ambient drum and woodwind layers.
